OK Boomer

images

Jack and I were in the car this morning, heading towards New Haven and the Yale University Art Gallery. (You can see about a thousand photos I posted on Instagram and Facebook… geez.). Naturally I was listening to Post Malone, because I still realllllyyyyyy like him. I believe it was “Internet” that was playing (Post and Kanye).

For reference, the lyric is “Instalove, if ignorance is bliss then don’t wake me up, and I’ll probably be the last to know, because I don’t get on the internet no more.”

Jack: That’s a song for Boomers.

me: Huh? Why?

Jack: Because Boomers don’t get on the internet no more.

me: Sighhhhhh.

He didn’t even look up from whatever HE was doing on his phone when he said that.

And then we went on to have a great day at the gallery and Atticus, for brunch. Yum!

Hey! With the knife!

the-american-knife-council

As a throwback to art school, where I always had an X-acto knife in my hand, I now currently do everything in my kitchen while holding a butcher knife (of some sort). I cut fruit, then use the knife to jimmy open a can of dog food, then use it to scoop and dice the food into Moca’s food bowl, and when not in use, the knife conveniently swivels back around in my hand so the handle is in my palm and the blade juts out the back. Very similar to art school. I had a lot of cuts back then. (Practice safe X-acto-ing people.)

Jack: The knife!

me: Sorry, I was just reaching for the carrots.

Jack: Don’t reach for them with the knife hand!

me: (pointing with the knife) Can you hand me the…

Jack: Gah! Put it down!

And so on and so forth. I just do everything with a knife in my hand. The other day I was chopping vegetables and then had an itch on my face. Let me tell you, since that knife has become like another appendage off my hand, I almost lost an eye!

me: (turning to get something out of the fridge) Hey, excuse me. I need to get in here.

Jack: With the knife again! (he dodges to the side).

me: Yeah, I really have to figure this out.

It’s pretty much a habit now. I’m really trying to break it! Really!

And now for some cool X-acto art with food. Because I like it. 🙂

What the Frick

I always try to suggest things for Jack to do when he goes to NYC. I really want him to learn and see and experience all that there is in the city. He prefers to stay in his room playing XBox. 😦

This was a conversation we had a few months ago but I never posted it…

me: What about a show?

Jack: Boring.

me: What about going to Central Park?

Jack: It’s freezing and it’s going to rain.

me: What about finding a street fair?

Jack: No.

me: Hold on I’ll look up some things to do. (I pull out my phone and start scrolling) What about one of the museums? There are lots of shows…

Jack: We always do that. We went to the Whitney and MoMA…

me: Oh hey there’s something at the Frick Museum. Actually it’s called the Frick Collection. Geez I had totally forgotten about the Frick.

Jack: Yeah. So did everybody else.

me: Sigh.
