So I’ve been reading my blog posts from 10 years ago (gasp) and it’s hysterical to read about Jacks antics and my comments like “I can’t wait to see him in high school”, etc. Now Jack is in high school and it seems like yesterday he was riding a bike with training wheels and wondering things like “what if we’re dreaming right now mom” and also wondering what it would be like to be water “you could smash into rocks and not get hurt mom”. Bittersweet it is when your baby gets to 10th grade and has muscles on him that are rock solid from rowing.
I still feel the same (50 is the new 35, right??) yet Jack has changed in every conceivable way. He towers over his grandpa, wears size 12 sneakers, and is thinking about college!!!
Some things haven’t changed… Jack is still a comedian, still snarky, and still has one liners that cut you to the quick. Sigh. And sometimes he’s just plain contrary. Must be a teen thing…. hahahahaha… no teen was ever contrary!!
I tried to give Jack fair warning that we were going to the store. He doesn’t like things that take him away from doing nothing.
me: We’re stopping at the store also on the way home…
Jack: I don’t want to go to the store. Drop me off at home.
me: I can’t, it’s out of the way to do that so you just have to come with me, it won’t take long.
Jack: It always takes long.
me: I promise I just have to grab a few things.
Jack: I’ll wait in the car.
me: For Pete’s sake, is it so terrible to spend 10 minutes in the store with me? You can buy all the things that you need.
Jack: I have everything I need already.
me: Then buy some things that you want.
Jack: I don’t want the things that I want.
me: ?

See? Pretty much the same kid from 2010 who wrote on his school project that he was most proud when he was with his mom. I have to hold onto those moments!!! ๐
Current view as I write this ๐ Not a creature was stirring…
